Treatment Description
Exercise is Medicine
There is abundant evidence that exercise based therapy is effective as a treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions including Tendinopathy, osteoarthritis and lower back pain. It has also been adopted to help prevent and treat non communicable diseases such as cardiac disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
There are three different outcomes that we can achieve with our rehabilitation programs. These are:
Repairing and re modelling damaged tissues such as muscle, bone, ligaments and tendons. This is achieved by progressively loading injured structures to induce a biological change in the soft tissue through a process called mechanotransduction.
Altering Biomechanics through motor-control training to change how a person moves. By doing this we can directly or indirectly unload the damaged sensitised tissue whilst also preventing future injuries.
Exercise based therapy can also be used to reduce a patient's pain. It has been shown that during and after exercise a person's pain threshold and pain tolerance is increased while their pain intensities are lowered. This is achieved by the release of certain hormones and endorphins and through pain inhibition mechanisms in the spine.
We are lucky to have full use of the facilities at Venture Fitness where we can provide detailed and tailored rehabilitation plans using a wide range of equipment including fixed weight machines, free weights, resistance bands, balance cushions, agility ladders, plyo boxes, TRX and more. We can also track your progress, compliance and pain levels using our easily downloadable Physitrack app.
